Turkish Family Of Five Drowned In Aegean Sea As Trying To Flee From Erdoğan Regime’s Persecution

Around the 10th of November bodies of three children were washed ashore in Lesvos. A horrible scene that left the Greek authorities clueless as there were no records of a recent shipwreck. Now it seems that these lifeless bodies belong to a Turkish family of five, who fled the country as they were facing persecution as alleged members of the Gülen movement.

At least 144 detained in 2 months while on way to escape to Greek islands

Via Turkey Purge – At least 144 people affiliated with Turkey’s Gülen group were detained in two months while trying to flee to nearby Greek islands, according to state-run Anadolu news agency.

The report said that 144 were detained as part of the operations in the resort province of Mugla in September and October. Some of the suspect were rounded up by coast guard off Mugla shores while some were caught upon tips off about their departure even before they took aboard. German asylum office BAMF rejects most of asylum claims from Turkish nationals

Via Tagesspiegel (from 12.09; Link in German) – While the German government criticizes the deteriorating human rights situation in Turkey and voiced travel warnings for Turkey for German nationals, the asylum office BAMF rejects most of asylum claims from Turkish nationals. From the 8.547 asylum claims coming from Turkish nationals taken this year, 5.040 asylum seekers were rejected as unfounded.

So, according to the German government, Turkey is not safe for German nationals, but they don’t seem to have any problems with deporting Turks to that same country and human rights conditions: A total of 26 Turks were deported to Turkey this year.

Turkish political refugees flock to Germany, seeking safety

[…] Germany has become the top destination for political refugees from Turkey since the failed July 15, 2016 coup. Some 5,742 Turkish citizens applied for asylum here last year, more than three times as many as the year before, according to the Interior Ministry. Another 3,000 Turks have requested protection in Germany this year.

Turkish soldiers get asylum in Germany

Via Tagesschau (link in German) – Around 400 Turkish Soldiers and Diplomats including their families applied for asylum in Germany since the attempted coup in Turkey. Now the first applications have been positively decided on: Several soldiers and their families got asylum in Germany.

According to unofficial information the ‚Federal Office for Migration and Refugees’ (BAMF) might have waiting for after the referendum to take a decision. Officially the BAMF is denying this information. The decision could have a signal effect for other European countries who as well got asylum requests from Turkish citizens.
