144 Km Long Wall to Be Built on Iranian Border

Via Bianet – A border wall similar to the “security wall” build on the Syrian border is being built on the Iranian border. The wall will be built by Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKİ) between Ağrı and Iğdır provinces within a protocol between the Ministry of National Security and TOKİ.

Two meters wide, three meters long blocks weighing seven tons will be used in the construction. The wall will be built in five stages, the first stage of the 144 kilometers-long wall will be completed by October. Also a security wall will be built behind the wall for security forces to patrol and 15 walls with bullet-proof glass will be placed along the wall.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had announced in June 2017 that a wall on the Iranian and Iraqi borders was to be built.

A large part of the 911 meters-long wall which Turkey has been building on its Syrian border has been completed. The wall consists of two meters-wide, three meters-long, 30 centimeters-thick blocks weighing seven tons, making the wall also portable. Also a razor wire barrier has been placed above the wall. It was built by TOKİ as well.

When the wall is completed, it will be the third longest wall after the Great Wall of China with the length of 3,460 km and Israeli-Palestinian wall of 1,120 km.
